Who we are
The church government is Elder led and Deacon served. The church has “Next Steps with Church On The Way” classes during the connection group time throughout the year. The classes last for four weeks and cover our Statement of faith, our Structure as a New Testament church, our Strategy based on the priorities of Scripture, and how you can access ministries and how you can get involved. These are offered for anyone who is interested in exploring the possibility of covenant membership in Church On The Way.
The church is located at 420 Riverside Park Lane, Weber City, VA 24290. Dr. Tony Crisp has served as our Senior Pastor since the Church On The Way was constituted as a church in 2021.
We are affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention of VA. The church also partners and networks with like-minded churches across the country to carry out the ministry and mission of Jesus.
Our Story
Church On The Way was constituted as a church and began meeting together in February of 2021 in the midst of the “Corona Virus” epidemic. This was a time in our nation’s history like no other; most churches were either closed or had just reopened.
Church On The Way was born out of a longing small group of followers of Jesus Christ in Kingsport, Tennessee, to totally commit themselves to build a church around the precepts, principles, and pattern of Scripture and to imitate the early church. The church emphasizes the Bible as the final authority in every area of life, and Jesus the Messiah as our life.
Our Beliefs
-
The purpose of Church On The Way is to love God, love others, and make disciples.
-
The Bible- We believe the Bible is the Word of God, fully inspired and without error.
The Trinity- We believe there is one true and living God, who eternally exists in three persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Man- We believe that God created all human beings in His image to be in fellowship with Him.
The Gospel- We believe the Gospel is the good news of God’s saving actions towards fallen mankind through Jesus Christ.
Salvation- We believe salvation is a free gift that comes only by God’s grace, through faith in Jesus Christ.
The Holy Spirit- We believe the Holy Spirit is equal to the Father and the Son as God and He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ.
Jesus And His Return- We believe Jesus Christ is God incarnate; in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His death on the cross that paid for our sin, and that one day Jesus Christ will literally return to take His bride, The Church, to be with Him forever. We further believe that Jesus will return to the earth and set up His earthly kingdom rule and restore the nation of Israel as the center of the earth and seat of the earth’s government.
Marriage And Sexual Intimacy- We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male and female and those two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. We believe that God created marriage and sexual intimacy to be exclusively between one man and one woman and that intimate sexual activity is to occur only within that union.
The Family- God has ordained the family as the foundational institution of human society. It is composed of persons related to one another by marriage, blood, or adoption. Marriage is the uniting of one man and one woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime.
Baptism- We believe that scriptural water baptism is by immersion in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit following one’s salvation experience.
Discipleship- We believe it is every Christian’s responsibility to assist all believers in becoming devout followers of Christ.
Missions- We believe our command is to make disciples wherever we go. Our duty is to preach and teach the Gospel, and our responsibility is to every man, woman, boy and girl.
Communion- We believe Communion (Lord’s Supper) is an ordinance given to all believers by Jesus Christ to remember His sacrifice for us and to symbolize the new covenant.
Sanctification- We believe sanctification is a work of Grace and is a process of being made Holy and the process starts with salvation, which is enabled by the Holy Spirit.
